OnePlus Carl Pei Hints At Two OnePlus Devices Arriving This Year

OnePlus have done some interesting things in 2014 and made the headlines on a number of occasions. This has been surprising for many different reasons. The first is that the company grew from being a completely unknown startup to a company which has managed to shift a million flagship devices in its first operating year. OK, not Samsung figures, but under the circumstances, are impressive enough. The other reason their success is so unique, is that it all seems to be off of the back of one device, the OnePlus One. Unlike other OEMs who throw just about a different device into the market on a weekly basis, OnePlus have only produced one device, the One.

That is not to say that will always be the case though. Months ago, rumors did circulate that OnePlus were working on their own smartwatch, although that does not seem to be the case anymore. In addition, OnePlus do seem to see accessories as a means to making more money and as such have released a number of these over the last few months including the recently launched OnePlus battery bank which (if you read our interview with Carl Pei) supposedly actually costs OnePlus to sell and make.

Well, 2015 is likely to be a different year for the company for a couple of reasons. Firstly, this year will see the release of their follow-up smartphone, the OnePlus Two. Although, few saw the OnePlus One coming, many will be watching the Two to see how the device stacks up and whether the company can continue on their success from last year or whether they will simply be a one-hit wonder. That said, in a recent interview with PC World (source link below) the company alluded to two devices hitting the market this year. To clarify, during the interview OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei said that as well as the OnePlus Two, another OnePlus device would be released. Unfortunately, details on the second device were not provided and as such we have very little to go on in terms of what a second device might be like. However, Pei did state that this ‘other’ device will “…be a phone catering to a different type of audience. Perhaps for those who appreciate design over specs”. With this teasing statement in mind, it will be interesting to see what the phone is like. We all know OnePlus pride themselves on specs which result in what they call a ‘flagship killer’, but does this mean that they are also now working on a ‘design killer’ smartphone too?
