Because keeping single-letter naming conventions makes sense to our Korean overlords (S, A, E), Samsung is set to release its J series of Galaxy phones, starting with the Galaxy J1. The J series will be a budget line of phones ready to take aim at the likes of the Moto G and others.
Now we have the first official pictures of the Galaxy J1, as well as specs. The J1 will have 5-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, a 4.3-inch WVGA display (yes, it’s still 2010), a 1.2GHz 64-bit quad-core Marvell PXA1908 processor, 1 GB Ram, 4GB internal storage, a microSD card slot, and a 1,850 mAh battery.
It will also run 4.4 KitKat. Why Lollipop isn’t part of the release is anyone’s guess, especially considering Lollipop’s low-spec optimizations.
There will be four variants – single-SIM LTE, dual-SIM LTE, single-SIM 3G, and dual-SIM 3G. The 3G variants will also have a VGA front-facing camera instead of the 2-megapixel sensor.
The official announcement hasn’t come yet, though we could see it as early as Wednesday, January 14th, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears unplugged for the official announcement.
