We’ve been seeing a lot of activity in the Xiaomi camp recently. The company has released the Redmi 1S’ successor on January 4th, the Redmi 2, and it’s a great device. Its price is extremely low and the device offers solid, mid-range specifications to the user. That handset is also smaller than its predecessor in basically every way, and it keeps the same 4.7-inch display, which is great. Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, also announced that the company will release their new flagship on January 15. Everyone, including us, assumed that he meant the Mi4S or the Mi5, which is still very probable, but the company has been teasing the Redmi Note 2 as well recently. Will Xiaomi release two handsets on January 15? We’ll find out soon, until then, let’s check out some new Xiaomi news.
Some new reports from China suggest that the Xiaomi Mi5 will support Hi-Fi sound and that its camera will feature OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), which was to be expected. Xiaomi’s official teaser also said the phone will be “fast”, though it’s unclear if they mean device’s performance or its mobile internet connection. Either way you spin it, this handset will be fast, the performance will be great, no doubt, the device is rumored to sport either the Snapdragon 805 or 810 processor, either one of the two should suffice. As for its mobile connection, well, it’s safe to expect at least Cat.6 LTE connectivity support, but we’ll see.
Interesting enough, reports also suggest that Xiaomi will launch a ton of stuff at that event. Not only do they expect the company to launch the Mi5, but also the Redmi Note 2 and new version of Mi TV and Mi Pad. That’s not all though, it look like Xiaomi might launch a Bluetooth speaker as well. If you take a look below this article, you’ll notice an image of a Bluetooth speaker which appeared in China and has Xiaomi’s branding on the top. This event could be bigger than we thought.
Xiaomi’s co-founder, Hong Feng, released some images on his official Weibo account recently. These images are nothing special, just shots of some Xiaomi stuff, but they were allegedly taken with the Mi5’s 13-megapixel camera. Their EXIF information says that the shooting device model is “MI5″, which is a pretty obvious giveaway. This could be Xiaomi’s way to misguide us or something, we’ll find out soon. You can check out these images in the gallery down below if you’re interested. The company will hold their event on January 15, stay tuned.
