A few second generation Nexus 7 devices having video playback issues

Nexus72013Playback

It appears that Google’s latest OS update may not be so sweet for some users, after all. Some users are reporting video playback issues on their second generation Nexus 7. The bad news is that there isn’t a permanent fix just yet, but there are workarounds that will allow for temporary video playback.

The bug happens in YouTube and other video apps or when local files are accessed in Android’s default player. According to the folks at Android Police the issue appears to be that the video players periodically lose track of the Video Player location. The logcat appears as this.

1-15 22:20:46.600: E/YouTube(21781): apps.youtube.app.fragments.VideoInfoFragment.handleSequencerStageEvent:465 Missing presenter for eyc

If you absolutely have to have video playback on your Android 5.0 wielding Nexus 7 – 2013 you can power cycle the device (power off, power on) and it may work. Other options include going into Developer Options in settings then disabling or enabling the “Use NuPlayer (experimental)” option then rebooting. Or in a last ditch effort you can try wiping the cache in recovery.

Again, it should be noted that these are temporary fixes and your mileage may vary. A permanent solution will probably have to come in the form of an OTA update down the road. I’m not having issues with my Nexus 7. Are you?
