This is Motorola’s Power Pack Micro – 1,500mAh Key Chain Battery Pack

Motorola-AH-164

While I was in Chicago last week for Motorola’s shindig, they sent us home with a bunch of goodies. Many of which you’ve already seen on the site. But one of those, we haven’t talked about much just yet. And that’s the Power Pack Micro. Now when I first saw this thing I wasn’t too impressed. As it’s only got about 1500mAh of power inside to charge up your phone. But that’s not really what sells this thing. There’s much more to Motorola’s Power Pack Micro. It is a $40 battery pack, and to most that will seem overpriced. But to others it may not, based on the type of feature it has, which we’ll talk about in a minute.

The Power Pack Micro is pretty small. It does have a built in microUSB port on the top and bottom the Top micro USB port is to charge your phone while the bottom one is to charge the battery pack. It’s also marketed as being on your keychain. And it’s actually small enough to do just that. It comes in a variety of colors as well. We’ve got the purple one here, which I’m actually a fan of. It won’t charge up your phone completely, but it will give you a little extra power to get through the day. And I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’d rather carry this around than the Limefuel 15,000mAh battery pack I have (and carried around while I was in Chicago last week).

The features don’t stop there. You can connect your Power Pack Micro to Motorola Connect as well. Which is now available for more smartphones. So what does it do with Motorola Connect? Well there are a few things. It’ll show you how much power is left on the Power Pack Micro. It’ll also show you where it is. So say you’re traveling and not sure where you left it, it’ll show you on a map where exactly you left it. Which is nice as well. Finally, you can double tap the power button on the Power Pack Micro to find your phone. Which I think is just plain awesome. These features require Android 4.3 and the Motorola Connect app. They also work with Bluetooth up to 100 feet apart.

The picture below is what the notification looks like when the Power Pack Micro is fully charged. This was taken with the Moto X in somewhat low-light. So it doesn’t look as good as the other pictures in this review/article.

The Power Pack Micro isn’t your typical battery pack, which is probably why I like it. It’s nice to see Motorola getting into the accessories game, and not just putting out the same thing as other accessory companies like Anker, Limefuel, and New Trent – in this case. The Power Pack Micro is available from Motorola.com for about $39.99 right now.
