Samsung Offering Free Pears Tomorrow In Belgium For Every Apple Tweet Today

September 9th today and so far it’s been a busy start to the month in the tech world. There have been numerous manufacturer events like ‘Samsung Unpacked’ where the Note 4/Note Edge smartphones as well as the Galaxy Gear VR (virtual reality) unit and new Samsung Gear S smartwatch were launched. We also had the Motorola ‘Moto Launch Experience’ with the unveiling of the Moto 360 smartwatch along with the Motorola X and G smartphones. Not to mention we also have had nearly a week of IFA announcements including those from ASUS, Sony, and Huawei

All in all, it has been a busy month. So much so that it’s nice that today was rather free of major announcements. A day off so to speak! Well, I mean there is the Apple thingy happening somewhere today, talking about something. I’m not really sure to be honest and don’t really care. It seems Samsung (Belgium division) feels the same way too. The Korean tech giant took to twitter this morning announcing “What’s all the fuss about apples on twitter today” further adding “We thought the pears were trending”. Samsung seems so confused by this talk of apples that they have offered to give away a free pear for EVERY tweet today about apples. According to the announcement for every tweet starting with #aPearForAnApple Samsung will literally buy a pear from local traders and give away free tomorrow at Brussels-North Railway Station.

You may wonder why Samsung has chosen pears? Well, this is quite a serious topic in Belgium at the moment. With the current self-imposed sanctions by Russia in relation to the importing of EU and US foods, the Belgium pear market are expecting loses in the region of 40% of their annual revenue. As such this is not only an attempt by Samsung to make pears today more popular than apples, but also to highlight and help local pear producers “For every tweet about an apple, we buy a pear and support the Belgian Pear cultivator”. So if you are interested in taking part in Samsung’s event today, then simply head over to twitter and tweet #aPearForAnApple. Not only will you help local pear producers and also make sure someone tomorrow gets a free pear, but you will also help fight against the war on apple tweets which in itself is a noble fight.
