What is Paper Pig?
Paper Pig is an endless runner-style game (like Temple Run) where you control a pig named Papi. In the game, Papi draws the world around him with a magic pencil which is then colored in by his friend, Mamo the special monkey. It features cute graphics, smooth game play, and (at the time of this writing) rocks a 4.9 rating in the Google Play Store.
It’s actually quite difficult to master. You use one thumb to tap and keep the pig in the air. Meanwhile you must use your other thumb to swipe left and right to avoid obstacles. It takes some time to get it down so those who are frustrated easily may not like this game. Once you get the hang of it then you’re pretty much playing an endless runner with a few extra rules, cute graphics, and some fun stuff. You go as long as possible without colliding with anything and try to beat your max score.
There are power ups that allow Papi the pig to change forms which also changes his strengths and weaknesses. These are obtained in game and can also be unlocked by collecting coconuts. You can also unlock mini games that you can play outside of the main game for a little extra fun. The developers have also committed to releasing updates with more mini games and more power ups. There aren’t any Google Play Games services which is a bummer but the game play is still pretty fun.
The graphics are nice but the game play is bland.
- The graphics and story are cute and goofy which is nice.
- Once you learn the game, it's not difficult to play but difficult to play well which gives it that Flappy Bird style addictive quality.
- Power ups and mini games help keep things interesting.
- Free to play (with in app purchases).
- Game play mechanics are a little bland.
- No Google Play Games services.
The bottom line is that Paper Pig is more enjoyable for its cuteness than its game play. The graphics are colorful and cutesy and the story is pretty goofy which we actually liked. There’s a slight, sudden learning curve at the beginning but things level out after that. It is fun but in terms of mechanics, it doesn’t bring all that much to the table that other games don’t already have have. It’s a fun little adventure and it’s free with in app purchases.
