OPPO N3 may be built with Lithium alloy

oppo_n3_lithium_teaser

Yesterday OPPO hinted that the OPPO N3 will be built out of an “aerospace grade metal.” Today, a new Weibo posting from OPPO asks readers if they know what the lightest metal element is. The answer to that question is Lithium, suggesting that could be a primary element used to construct the new device.

Lithium is probably more commonly known to many people as a component of Lithium-ion batteries. The material is also highly reactive and is used in other, more explosive applications, like pyrotechnics and fuel for rockets. However, when combined with some materials to create a Lithium alloy, the material can be used to construct lightweight components. A common use for these alloys is in aircraft components, which harkens back to yesterday’s reference to “aerospace” metals.

At least one follower of OPPO’s Weibo account suggested the company would not use Lithium to which a company representative replied, “don’t be so sure of it.”

If OPPO does indeed produce the N3 using a Lithium alloy frame, they could produce a very lightweight phone.
