Samsung has announced the Galaxy Note Edge handset unexpectedly during their IFA keynote in Berlin in September last year. This device surprised many people due to its curved display on the right side which acts as a separate panel in a way. This handset offers all Galaxy Note 4’s software features, even the S Pen stylus, but it also has a bunch of its own tricks to offer. The aforementioned side Edge screen does act like a separate panel, but it also offers content based on what you have opened on the main display.
This device was introduced with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed, and it seems like Android 5.0.1 Lollipop has started rolling out OTA for this handset in Australia. The Galaxy Note 4 started receiving Android Lollipop in Europe last week, and it’s Galaxy Note Edge’s time now. This could be a soak test though, but hopefully Samsung will push the update in more regions soon. The model this update is arriving to is SM-N915G in Australia and, as previously mentioned, this is the 5.0.1 version of Lollipop.
The Galaxy Note Edge ships with a 5.6-inch 2K (2560 x 1600) display along with 3GB of RAM and 32 or 64GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 128GB). The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor clocked at 2.7GHz which comes with an Adreno 420 GPU for graphics processing. 16-megapixel OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) camera is located at the back of the device while there’s a 3.7-megapixel shooter included up front. The device measures 151.3 x 82.4 x 8.3mm and weighs 174 grams. Android 4.4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed on this device with Samsung’s Revolving UX on top of it, and a 3000mAh battery is also part of the package.
