Sponsored Game Review: Magnetic balls puzzle game

Magnetic Balls is an Android game that’s based around similar mechanics found in the likes of Puzzle Bobble and similar games. Where it differs however, is that the balls are magnetic and will sway and stick together, rather than splitting down the center and staying in the same place as they do on other games. It’s a neat little change to the game’s mechanic and it does add another level of difficulty to the overall package. There’s a number of different themes and lots of levels to pass through as you earn coins to build a ski resort at the end of each level in the “Vacation” area. There’s also an endless arcade mode for those just interesting in playing a puzzle game, as well as the mode that progress you from level-to-level. Let’s take a closer look shall we?

To start playing, you need to download Magnetic Balls from the Play Store. Then, you can choose which game mode you want to play.

You can choose to play through the levels – which is my preferred way to play – or just play the arcade style game. There are also a good selection of options to change like the difficulty as well as changing the balls to numbers for those with sight problems.

When playing the game, it’s pretty easy to get to grips with, all you need to do is to tap and a ball will be fired in that direction. They do bounce off the side, but the balls are magnetic, so they are drawn together as well.

You can plan ahead a little bit, as you know which colors will appear next, giving you the chance to use some strategy. When you hit a combination of balls, they’ll disappear an show off some sort of animation as well, showing you how many coins and such you’ve won for that sort of thing.

At the end of each level, you’re given an out-of-three star rating on how you did. If you don’t do it within the time limit, you’re likely to only get one star.

You do level up however, and over time you’ll gain items and money you can spend “on Vacation” to help out our little friend enjoy a nice holiday.

You can change the look and feel of each level yopu play as well, which is a nice touch, and gives the game some variety.

There are 192 levels to work your way through as well, giving players a lot to do. Not to mention the endless arcade mode with a nightmare mode for the adventurous.

On the face of things, it’s easy to say that Magnetic Balls is just another Puzzle Bobble clone, but there is a little more to it than that. Sure, it’s unavoidably similar, but the fact that the balls are magnetic and don’t stay in the same place all the time is a nice change of pace to other similar titles. I liked the fact that I had to be quick if I wanted ot get a ball in a gap, before they were magnetically drawn together, and there’s a lot to love about the way the balls act and move on the whole. I did wish for some clearer direction in the menus and that sort of thing, but on the whole this is a fun, arcade style puzzle game. I can see this being good fun for all ages, with a nightmare mode for those really looking to challenge themselves.

• Speed (4/5) – Magnetic Balls ran fine on my devices, and I never had an issue with it.


• Features (4/5) – On the face of things, this is like may other games out there, but the magnetic balls do make things more lively as well as more challenging.


• Theme (4/5) – With lots of different looks to choose from, this is a flexible game that looks good no matter what. I do wish that the menus were better, but other than that this is a good-looking game.


• Overall (4/5) – A solid arcade puzzler game that might not offer much different to the original Puzzle Bobble game, but is a lot of fun and a refreshing change of pace from the original. It’s also quite challenging as well.

Pros

• Works well on smartphones as well as tablets.


• Nice challenge for those that fancy themselves as being good at this sort of game, the endless arcade mode is a real challenge.


• Magnetic balls sway and join together to mix things up and make it a little more challenging even for younger players.


• Different themes to choose from will give players another reason to come back, and it keeps things fresh.

Cons

• Menus aren’t clear and some features just aren’t explained well.


• Definitely feels very similar to the age-old Puzzle Bobble game.

Magnetic Balls is a puzzle game that has a lot going for it, but unfortunately if you’ve played these sorts of games befor,e then you’ll know what to expect here. The Magnetic balls are a good change as they do alter how the games plays for the most part, but it does feel very similar. The graphics look decent, it’s still good fun and it’s free to download with little annoyance from ads, so there’s little reason to not give this a try.
