Mobile World Congress is of course all about the new devices; the smartphones, the tablets, the accessories and that sort of thing. However, it’s important to remember that this is still a trade show and as such, there’s a lot of demonstrations and announcements going on that are all about the latest services and business solutions. One of those is SOTI’s latest version of MobiControl, a solution to enable businesses and users to make the most out of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) solutions and during Mobile World Congress, they’re announcing support for both Google’s own Android for Work initiative as well as Samsung’s KNOX 2.4.
You might be wondering why you’d need to care about this sort of thing, and it would be easy to just say that you don’t, but in actuality it’s quite a big deal. BYOD solutions are a big deal for companies these days as there’s so much choice in the market these days, people don’t want to use an outdated BlackBerry or be forced to use a device they’re not familiar with. If everyone is using their own devices though, how do you keep information secure and put limitations in place? SOTI’s MobiControl 11.2 is to answer this question. With support for Android for Work, businesses can control outbound traffic, deploy apps and generally control pretty much anything they’d like to on a business device running a recent version of Android. The same goes for KNOX now as well, allowing users or businesses to choose Samsung devices for their products.
The whole point of something like SOTI’s MobiControl system is to enable users the ability to use their own personal device and give it a sort of split-personality disorder. With KNOX support, users can choose a Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge and bill apps to their personal account or a separate business account, for example. We’ve attached some images in a little demo down below, and while this isn’t the most interesting thing from Mobile World Congress, it’s an important change to come for those in IT later this year.
