Xolo has made another one of its octa-core phones official in India. The 8X-1020, as it’s known as, is priced at 9,999 INR ($158) and finds itself in the popular Play series of budget Xolo phones. With phones such as the Yu Yureka targeting the online market, Xolo will be eyeing the sort-of discarded offline market in India with phones such as the Play 8X-1020.
Since there’ll be middlemen involved in the supply chain of this new phone, it doesn’t really appeal as much as other online-only launches that India has seen. However, what one has to realize is that a major share of sales is still carried out offline in India. The Play 8X-1020 comes with a 5-inch 1280 x 720p HD display, and packs the octa-core MediaTek MT6592m CPU that operates at 1.4GHz. The MT6592m is the knocked-down version of the first MediaTek octa-core chip, the MT6592 which runs at 1.7GHz throughout its eight cores. Along with the mid-range SoC, Xolo have given the Play 8X-1020 1GB of RAM which does fall second to the Yu Yureka which will be seen as a prime contender (but it’s online only).
Besides that, there’s 8GB of on-board storage, which will of course be expandable via microSD. The phone also packs an 8 mega-pixel rear camera, which according to Xolo comes from Sony’s facilities — the Exmor R. Since people really care about selfies these days, the Play 8X-1020 comes with a 5-megapixel front snapper in order to satisfy the hunger for exactly that. There’s no 4G LTE, and there’s a 2,500mAh battery to power the internals that doesn’t sound too bad.
Like many phones, the device will most likely be sold at a price lower than the suggested MRP (Maximum Retail Price) by Xolo. In this case, the device has been priced at 9,999 INR ($158), but it will most likely be sold at 9,700 INR ($155) and lower, in domestic offline markets in India. Are you a citizen of India? If yes, do you still prefer purchasing a phone offline (and paying a premium for that) over ordering online? Do let us know in the comments section below.
