Unofficial Android 5.0 (Lollipop) For Samsung Galaxy S2 Stable Enough To Install – Links Included

If you own a Google Nexus, LG, Samsung or pretty much any android device then all the recent news and talk is probably to do with Android 5.0 (Lollipop). It seems consumers and manufacturers are all so preoccupied with getting Lollipop out to their devices as soon as possible. That said, if your device is a couple of years old then you are probably sitting there quietly and patiently not asking too many questions. This is because most of the manufacturers tend to end their support for older devices and as such there is no guarantee as to when (or even if) you will get the latest android system to your device. If you are a Samsung older device owner then you might even be more worried if you read the recent news that CyanogenMod (CM) are struggling to get Lollipop working on older devices due to issues with PIE.

In particular, one device which was noted as providing a real problem was the Samsung Galaxy S2. Now, most owners of newer devices are probably thinking ‘who cares about the S2’. However, the i9100 (as it is more formally known) is still quite a popular device and especially within the rooting community. It was after all, the real iPhone competition device and as such paved the way for the newer Galaxy S phones, which we are always talking about. Well, if you are an S2 owner and worried that you might not get Lollipop then you should worry a little less as there is always unofficial CM ports. In fact, one of those ports on XDA as just reached a stable level. Although it is being considered ‘stable’ it is worth noting that it does still have a couple of bugs (namely HD recording and internal storage) and is also an unofficial version of CM12. That said, if you want the taste of Lollipop on the Samsung Galaxy S2 this certainly might be the best option to try.

By now (and if you are going to try doing this) you should know what to do. But just in case, you need to download both the Lollipop image and Gapps from the XDA thread. You should also have a custom recovery already installed. After this, boot into recovery and make a backup. Save the backup (not on your internal memory) and then go back into recovery. From here, find the image you downloaded and flash. Go back into recovery and flash Gapps. Following this, reboot and be prepared to wait during the first boot up. After which (hopefully) you are looking at Lollipop on your device. So, any S2 owners out there? Going to give this a try?
