Xiaomi has already released three new handsets in 2014, the Redmi 2, Mi Note and Mi Note Pro. The first handset is the successor to the extremely popular Redmi 1S mid-ranger which was selling like crazy in 2014, while the other two are Xiaomi’s new flagship handsets. That being said, it seems like Xiaomi intends to release a refreshed version of the Redmi Note soon. The company has already released two versions of the Redmi Note handset in 2014, the 3G version shipped with 1GB of RAM, while the 4G version came with 2GB of RAM. It seems like this China based company intends to release the basic 1GB version again but this time around they intend to include 4G connectivity in it. This handset was just certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC).
It looks like that the 4G LTE connectivity will be the only difference between this and the basic 3G version of the device. Redmi Note was priced quite aggressively when it launched, and I’m sure that this handset will cost the same or even less than that. We’re looking at a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card). This handset will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor which ships with an Adreno 305 GPU for graphics processing. 13-megapixel camera is located on the back of this thing and is flanked by an LED flash, and a 5-megapixel snapper will be available up front. Android 4.4.4 KitKat will come pre-installed on this device with Xiaomi’s MIUI OS on top of it, as usual.
As you can see, this is the same old Redmi Note handset that we know and love, but this time around it offers 4G LTE connectivity. This makes me wonder though, will Xiaomi release the Redmi Note 2 in the end or not? It is possible that Xiaomi basically transformed the affordable Redmi Note line into the high-end Mi Note line, but I doubt that. I still believe that the company will release the Redmi Note 2 in the coming months, we’ll see. What are your thoughts here?
