Android TV is slowly, but surely getting some traction. This platform will be a huge hit in 2015, at least in my humble opinion. Anyhow, Toshiba has just launched the new Android-powered LED TVs in India, and by doing that they became one of the first companies to do so in India (alongside Vu and Arise). The L5400 and L9450-series LED TVs are Toshiba’s newest offerings, though they’re not powered by Google’s Android TV platform, but Android 4.4 KitKat. Let’s see what do they have to offer.

The Toshiba L9450-series features a a 4K (3840 x 2160) UHD display and sports a 4K RESOLUTION+ up-conversion technology, this basically means that it up-called the full HD or lower resolution into 4K resolution. The Toshiba L5400, on the other hand, sports an HD or full HD displays, depending on the screen size. Both of these series of TVs include Wi-Fi, Google Play, Miracast, game controllers, wireless keyboard and a mouse.

The L9450-series will come in 50-inch, 65-inch and 84-inch screen sizes and will cost Rs. 199,000 ($3,226), 369,900 ($5,996) and 10,049,00 ($16,290) respectively. The L5400-series will be cheaper, of course, these TVs will be available in 32-inch, 40-inch and 55-inch sizes and will set you back Rs. 38,990 ($632), 58,990 ($956) or 85,990 ($1,394), respectively, should you choose to buy one. All of these TVs will be available for purchase in the coming days according to Toshiba, which are great news indeed.

“The Android interface has opened a world of possibilities for consumers. From connecting India, to offering a wide variety of performance tools and apps, to an array of entertainment option, Android has demonstrated its ambidextrous capabilities. We are trying to bring the same limitless experience by breaking boundaries on screen sizes. Our latest range offers the customers a choice to enjoy latest Android applications on a larger screen and in a higher image quality, than that of smartphones and tablets,” said Sanjay Warke, Country Head of Toshiba India’s DS Division.

There you have it, a bunch of great Android-powered TVs are soon going to be available in India. These TVs are not cheap, of course, but if you’re in the market to get one, you will have some options. That being said, anyone getting ready to snatch one up?
