TWRP Now Available For The Moto 360 And LG G Watch R Smartwatches

TWRP AH

TWRP (TeamWin Recovery Project) is a staple of the rooting world. That is because, custom recoveries like TWRP are essential to installing custom ROMs and files after rooting. Once you have a custom recovery in place, you can load up the recovery and flash as many files and as often as you like. Not to mention that it is also an integral ingredient for those who want to make substantial and usable backups of their entire system. Or likewise restore from a previously made backup. If you have yet to come into contact with TWRP, but like the idea of downloading, flashing and installing, then you will need to get used to such software. If you are currently using a smartwatch then you might want to listen up.

The latest from the TWRP camp is that they have not released TWRP specifically for the Moto 360 and LG G Watch R smartwatches. Previous to this, there had been some unofficial ports floating about but as always with these things, they can be temperamental and a little unstable. Those who are used to TWRP and currently using one of the mentioned smartwatches, will be glad to know an official recovery is now available. To everyone else, running a custom recovery on a smartwatch might seem a little out there and certainly as it is not the deal with their small screens. That said, there is no doubt recoveries will become a necessary option once more custom options are developed by smartwatches. The size of the screen was always likely to be a major issue with custom ROMS and recoveries and in fact on both the Moto 360 and LG G Watch R TWRP pages, TWRP notes that there is still an issue with the display of the recovery which shows at 240 x 240 which is even smaller than both displays. So there are still bugs to be worked out. That said, they are both working and can be installed on your devices now with no other major issues noted.

On a more general note, TWRP has also been updated bringing the software to version 2.8.4.0. With this comes a variety of updates and minor changes. The most notable change is that you can use the back button on smart watches to go back to the previous menu. Will you be installing TWRP anytime soon? Let us know.
