By now we should all know that Google is big on fostering and powering forward education. They have started establishing their presence in the classroom well before today, with the initiation of the Google Apps for Education program as well as getting a number of schools around the country to make Chromebooks their primary computers for use in classrooms, and today they’ve put out a guide to help those understand how to activate technology within the school environment. Appropriately called “a guide to activating technology in schools,” in which Google is laying out an easy 5-step system for helping schools to transition into using a more technological education format inside their institutions.

Google points out that although some schools may be willing and ready to make the leap forward in transitioning to the use of educational technology, attempting to do so without a plan and “wise counsel” can draw the process out to last longer than it needs to as well as cost more funding than needs to be spent. Google’s 5 simple steps can help to put education systems on the right path to using educational technology should they be looking to do so while streamlining things and keeping the costs as low as possible.

Following Google’s guide starts with “defining your goals,” something that makes perfect sense for a first step as you should have an outline of what you’re looking to accomplish. The next step is to Invest in Access. Breaking it down, embracing educational technology is going to require internet, and so this step pertains to getting proper internet connectivity and making sure that it’s optimized and scaled properly for use by students and staff. Schools are generally large institutions and can have thousands of students, so optimizing internet is a must. The third step suggests that you gather a team of dedicated people who are passionate about getting this educational jump off the ground and putting the plan into action to make thins happen. The last two steps, which are offering web tools, and managing changes, focus on giving everyone in the school who is planned to have access, useful tools to get things done, learn, and flourish, and developing skills to use the new education tools and technology while following up and monitoring progress to make sure things are taking root. Google is offering this guide in 10 different languages so they’re off to a great start in providing it to a decent size base of education systems that are interested in educational technology. The guide can be found at the source link below if you’re someone in the education industry and are looking to get things started, there’s also the handy video below which can help to give some insight on Google’s vision.
