Bell Puts The HTC One (M8) Out To Pasture, New HTC Flagship Coming Soon

All good things must come to an end, and Bell in Canada has determined that now is to put the HTC One (M8) out to pasture. According to this leaked image from Mobile Syrup, Bell has moved the M8 to end-of-life status and soon won’t be selling the smartphone. The Canadian wireless carrier just launched the One M8 last April, so they didn’t even sell it for a full year before moving on. They are still supporting the phone and plan on rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop for it in the coming weeks. This just means that they won’t be buying any more stock of the M8. Once they sell out, that’s it.

End of life on a flagship smartphone like this usually means that the next one is coming soon. The replacement for the One M8 has been dubbed the HTC Hima and should be announced in March if rumors are to be believed. The Hima, or maybe the One (M9), is rumored to have a 5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 810 CPU and an Adreno 430 GPU. HTC is reportedly going to be upgrading the rear camera to a 20.7-megapixel sensor, and a 13-megapixel front facing shooter. Top it off with 3GB of RAM and Android 5.0 Lollipop, and the next flagship from HTC shapes up to be a winner. We won’t know for sure for a few more months, but we don’t have that much longer to wait.

HTC announced the One (M7) in February 2013 and then released the phone a month later. The One (M8) was announced in March 2014 and released the same month. Bell picked it up the following month. The time frame fits with HTC’s previous announcement history, so a March announcement and release of the Hima is very likely. The most exciting part of the Hima, to me, is that upgraded camera. The M8 was a truly fantastic phone, except for that UltraPixel camera on the back. HTC’s camera software is great, so with upgraded hardware they should have one of the best all-around phones of 2015 on their hands.
