Huawei isn’t the only one selling unlocked smartphones here in the US in 2015. Alcatel also is using the same strategy. Alcatel has announced that they’ll be selling their smartphones unlocked here in the US as well as their accessories this year. Additionally, they are also going to be expanding in Europe this year. We got hands on with some of Alcatel’s smartphones at CES this week, including their new smartwatch and their Pop 10 tablet.
“Launching this e-commerce channel allows us to form a more direct relationship with our customers, while providing them greater access to affordable, feature-rich technology,” said Steve Cistulli, Senior Vice President of North America for ALCATEL ONETOUCH. “Bringing our key global devices to consumers, unlocked, is a natural progression of our growth in North America and is another step we’re taking to ensure consumers have the choice and opportunity to buy the smart devices they need at affordable prices.”
According to Alcatel’s press release, the phones that will be available unlocked in the US aren’t necessarily new ones. But they are better than nothing. These smartphones include Idol X+ (4G), Idol 2 S (LTE) and for tablets we’ve got the Pop 8 (4G) and the Pop 7 (4G). You can check out their US store at http://ift.tt/1DASm1D. As far as accessories go “Accessories available on the webstore range from device covers and NFC tags, to 1800mAh power banks and Bluetooth headsets.” So we’ve got all kinds of new goodies coming from Alcatel OneTouch, which is definitely nice to see. Always great to see cheap, unlocked smartphones available in the US, without needing to import them.
These will all be available in the US and Canada later on in Q1. So how many of you are excited to see Alcatel finally be openly available in the US? Let us know in the comments below.
