Thanks to the Zauba site tracking imports into India, including devices for testing purposes like in this case, new information has been gleaned about Samsung’s work on their tablet devices for 2015. The Zauba site listed a couple Samsung tablets entering the country on December 22nd and 23rd, the Samsung SM-T555 and the SM-T1116 respectively. The former is believed to be a 10-inch version of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 5 while the latter is thought to be a budget model tablet.
The clues for the SM-T555 primarily consists of comparing the model number with the model numbers for the current crop of Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 devices. The variants of the Galaxy Tab 4 all have model numbers using an SM-T53x pattern The new SM-T55x pattern is thought to be consistent with Samsung’s number convention that signals a successor model. The big question now is whether this new tablet will be a 10-inch tablet or whether Samsung is looking to go bigger like some other manufacturers in an effort to create a compelling sales case when compared to some of the larger smartphones on the market now.
Meanwhile, the SM-T1116 was listed on the Zauba web site with a value of about $101 USD, which would put it in a budget model price range. Sources believe this tablet will come equipped with a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and Android 4.4.4 installed.
With CES 2015 right around the corner, we may get some more information soon about what Samsung’s strategy for the tablet market will be during 2015.
