Shift For Android Lets You Create And Customize Your Own Photo Filter Effects

AH Shift-1

Smartphone photography has come quite a long way in the last 3-5 years. Even in the last year or two, images taken from smartphones have progressed quite a bit, offering up some really great quality pictures to show off and enjoy. While some of the images that you end up with from the main camera can look amazing in their stock form, there are some things that you can do to enhance the look a little bit or even just give some artsy feel to your images if you feel like jazzing them up. We’re talking about photo filters, which is nothing new to Android, but this app that allows you more control over the filters that you place over your pictures is new to Android, and it’s called Shift.

What Shift does is take you out of the user position in a sense, and makes you the creator when it comes to filters. More simply put, it lets you create your own photo filters with a few simple taps and swipes to select the parameters that you want. This gives you a little more in the way of options when choosing that perfect filter to add to your photos, especially if you find yourself with a tiny creative spark and are in need of an outlet to let it shine. There’s a large assortment of colors, textures, and blends within Shift which can all be combined to find just the perfect balance before using it as an overlay.

The only issue that people might find with shift is that you can’t necessarily pinpoint select the color, texture, and blends combinations that you want, rather you hit a shuffle button to randomly switch through different combinations that you may or may not like or find appealing. When you do settle on one that you enjoy, you have the option of further customizing your image with the focal points of the filter which you can pinch and drag to move specific elements of that filter to a different point in the image, creating something truly unique. You can save the filter creations that you love for later which makes it nice and easy to go back and pick them again for other images. There’s also a slider bar at the bottom that allows you to essentially add in more color and intensify the filter effects should you feel the base combination needs a little more life, boldness or vibrancy. It’s an interesting app to be sure, and it won’t be for everyone, especially if you like to quickly add filter effects for a speedy post or simply don’t want to mess with too much creation. If however, you’re feeling a little more artistic and inspired, Shift just might be the perfect new addition to your photos. Shift is free and you can pick it up from the Play Store link.
