Android Wear devices are starting to become more useful by the day, with developers working hand over foot to bring us users some great apps to help enhance the Android Wear experience. Earlier we told you about Wear Face Collection, an app that brings users a collection of available watch faces for their Android Wear devices, but that merely gives you a look to your watchface that you can be proud of. While having more options for customizations like those are nice, what we really want to see are some more functional uses, like music playback controls for example. There are already some built in music playback controls within Android Wear, but they’re limited at best and to be honest there is more that users might demand from their music controls if there to be more accessible from something like a smartwatch. A simple Pause and play just doesn’t cut it.
Music Boss wants to help change all that, and be the only music playback controls you’ll ever need for your Android Wear device for as long as you live. How is Music Boss attempting to do this? By not limiting its users to just music playback controls. Yes, Music Boss wants to empower you to control ALL of your media from your Gear Live, or G Watch(and Moto 360 once it’s available). The app doesn’t override the default Android Wear playback controls, and you’ll have to open it up like you would with the Google Keep Wear app if you wanted to take a note. Once open though, you’ll have quite a few options to work with. Past the music playback controls, which actually has the added capability of switching between tracks back and forth by swiping left or right on the screen of the watch,(something the default keys could have used)you can also use it to control the videos that you’re casting up to your TV via the Chromecast. While it was already easy enough to control media that’s being streamed to the Chromecast with your Android device, now with Music Boss you’ll be able to sit the device down(perhaps on the charger)and control what you’re watching from the couch still, nice and comfortably. This can be especially useful if where you charge your device is nowhere near the couch. Need to pause the film and get up for a drink or refill on snacks? No problem with Music Boss.
You can open up Music Boss with voice or by using the touch screen and swiping to the Music Boss card, either way works just fine. Pausing media that’s currently playing simply requires a screen tap and you can tap the screen twice on media apps to open them up, or long press them to open them on your Android Wear connected device. Music Boss also displays all of your media information on your Android Wear, it even creates a cool visual experience for every song playing that adapts to the album art, and will display the time left of any videos you’re watching via the Chromecast. For all it can do, Music Boss will cost you $1.99 to get wrist worn media controls, which isn’t bad. Although it would be nice to get to try this app out before you buy, having some easier and potentially more hands free interaction with your media controls might be worth the couple of bucks.
