HTC Zoe exits beta (sort of), available to all in the Google Play Store

HTC Zoe featured

HTC Zoe was formerly a feature that one could only find on HTC Sense devices. It essentially takes your photos and videos and turns them into a highlight reel which you can then view and share with friends. Over the last few months, HTC has been turning that feature into a sort of social network and now it’s being released to the public starting today.

Here’s how it works. You sign up with an account which you can do easily using Facebook or Google+ login. From there you follow people and have people follow you. Then you can upload your own Zoes and view Zoes that other people post. There is a selector so you can choose what content gets Zoe’d and shared and there are some fun stuff like filters if you want to use those.

It’s been in beta for a while and it was a pretty poorly contained beta because it already has over 5 million downloads. What’s good about it is that if you’re just now joining today, chances are you have plenty of people to follow. The sign up process is much like any other social network. You create your account, it finds friends of yours (if applicable) using the service so you can follow them, and then shows you popular people that you can also follow.

We’re going to do a hands on with the app in the next few days so stay tuned for that. It is worth noting that although it’s available for public consumption officially, it does still carry the beta tag for now. If you want to give it a shot, you can find it in the Google Play Store or by clicking here.
