There is no denying that the selfie is here to stay. To say that it is a trending term would certainly be an understatement considering that the world “selfie” itself has been officially added to the Oxford dictionary and there is now a sitcom on television called, you guessed it, “Selfie”. HTC, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, has decided to take advantage of this phenomenon with the just announced release of their HTC Desire Eye smartphone. The main selling point for the Desire Eye is its 13MP front facing camera. Along with this selfie-ready front facing camera comes a suite of features called the HTC Eye Experience that will allow users to do a great deal with pictures and videos taken with the front facing shooter. Interestingly, HTC has announced that they will not keep the Eye Experience exclusive to Desire Eye devices and will make it available on several of their already available smartphones.
The HTC Eye Experience contains features such as Face Tracking, Screen Share, Split Capture, Face Fusion, Live Makeup, Auto Selfie, Voice Selfie, Photo Booth and Crop Me In. Face Tracking keeps track of up to four different faces in a photo or video. Screen Share helps users share their screen with others. Split Capture allows users to combine photos and videos from both the front and rear facing cameras into one picture or video. Live Makeup is an editing feature that helps improve facial features and appearance. Voice Selfie will capture a selfie using only voice commands and Crop Me In crops a person from an image or video taken using the front facing camera into the scene being captured by the rear shooter. The Eye Experience is clearly jam-packed with features that people could have a lot of fun with so it makes good sense on HTC’s part to make them as widely available as possible within their product line.
The HTC smartphones that will receive this update include the HTC One M7, One M8, One E8, One Mini, One Mini 2, One Max, Desire 816, HTC Desire 820 and HTC Butterfly 2. HTC did not name a specific date for when the Eye Experience update will start rolling out to these devices but did say that it could be expected within a few months.
