Users of Google’s popular Chromecast will want to update the Chromecast app on their Android or iOS device today as Google has announced a very cool feature for their cheap streaming device. The feature is called Backdrops and allows you to replace the stock images that appear when the stick is idle with photos from a number of sources including Google+ photo albums (personal and public), artwork from galleries and museums via the Google Cultural Institute, images from new sites such as The New York Times and The Guardian (US only) and satellite imagery courtesy of Google Maps. Additionally if you see a photo that piques your interest, simply open the Chromecast app, select “Backdrops” and tap the card for more info. The update is rolling out today, so be sure to take advantage of the new feature now!
