Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 Pre-Orders Sell Out In Three Days In South Korea

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-4-AH-16

One of the biggest announcements of this year’s IFA event was the highly awaited launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4. In spite of this being a highly anticipated device and its announcement expected, no one expected Samsung to launch two versions, the Note 4 and Note Edge. However since its official unveiling the Note 4 started to receive some unfortunate headlines. Less than two weeks ago, it was reported South Korean analysts were predicting Samsung would only sell 11 million Note 4 units before the end of the year and was being considered disappointing, as not improving on the previous Note 3’s sales. To add to this, a few days later analysts again predicted Samsung should prepare for their lowest quarterly sales of the last two years. Then with the release of the iPhone 6 and its new bigger device, the iPhone 6 Plus some critics were further suggesting this would also affect the sales of Samsung and the Note 4.

Well, maybe it’s not all bad news for Samsung. It seems demand for the Note 4 in South Korea has led to all the local carriers reporting they have completely sold out their pre-order availability before the device has been released. SK Telecom is generally considered to be the biggest Korean network (by market share) and they completely sold out pre-orders for the Note 4 in only 9 hours. Similarly the other big Korean networks (KT and LG Uplus) also are reporting to have fully allocated all pre-orders in less than three days. The news that South Korea has sold out all pre-orders in less than three days will be welcome news for the tech giant who were looking to be under increasing pressure. This will also be welcomed news for the local carriers as it seems smartphone sales were dropping in the country over recent months. One reason that may be contributing to the early pre-order success of the Note 4 is the cost. To buy the device in South Korea the price is a whopping 957,000 Korean Won (which equates to roughly $920) however this is actually $100 cheaper than what the Note 3 had previously sold for at launch (1,067,000 Million Won or $1,025)

Whether the Note 4 will continue to maintain strong sales both in South Korea and internationally only time will tell. However, this is a good early sign for Samsung and their newest flagship device. For US customers Sprint are accepting pre-orders for the Note 4 starting September 26th.
