Apple Reportedly Planning On Shutting Down Beats Music

Apple’s Tim Cook seemed to be in love with Beats Music but now it looks like he may be changing his tune. Today, TechCrunch is reporting from five completely different sources within Apple that they are planning on shutting down the Beats Music streaming service permanently. This is an odd thing to be hearing when the last thing we heard from Tim Cook pertaining to the service was “When I listened to Beats Music for a while, I feel completely different…it’s hard to describe.”

This information does come as a surprise but then again, it kind of doesn’t. You see, when Apple first acquired the Beats brand not too long ago, one of the questions that a lot of people were asking was how the Beats Music streaming service would fit in with Apple. Since Apple is already fully behind its own newer music streaming service, iTunes Radio, there seemed to be no place at Apple where Beats Music would simply mesh. In other words, we could have seen this coming, but not necessarily this soon and so suddenly.

So if Apple did not acquire the Beats brand for Beats Music, then why did they spend $3 billion dollars on it? Well that’s an easy answer, hardware and packaging as well as the well-known and talented founders like Dr. Dre. Both of these things are how Beats generated all of its money. When you take a great looking product, package it in a unique and beautiful way and then have tons of celebrities endorse your product, then you’ve got a product that will make millions, regardless of how well it works. Beats did just that, and they did it very well. For all of you Beats Music users out there, we are sad for you. It’s never great news to hear that your music streaming service is probably going to get shut down. But there is a little bit of a bright-side, as of now, there has been no word on when exactly the Beats Music service will be terminated, which means that it’s still available at this point, for now.
