HTC Join Samsung In Mocking Apple iPhone 6 Launch On Twitter

AH HTC M8

If you have been following tech news you would have heard of a big tech launch occurring. Well, last week it happened. With Samsung launching their newest flagship device(s), the Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge and their latest take on smartwear the Samsung Gear S. Since the Samsung event there have also been a number of other announcements (and releases) made public including a couple of big ones from Motorola, Sony and ASUS. It also seems today a little company from California decided to launch their own take on this year’s technology. Apple this morning launched their new device the iPhone 6 and their own smartwatch, the Apple Watch.

In anticipation of Apple’s launch event in California, Samsung was quick out of the stables this morning launching a Twitter campaign to get users to tweet more pear tweets than apple tweets. Samsung literally offered (in Belgium) to buy a pear for every apple tweet tweeted. This was obviously a clear attempt to mock Apple as Samsung has done so readily over the years with all other launches. Now the launch is officially underway and the devices have been announced it seems HTC are the next Android based company to take a pop at Apple and again through Twitter. HTC have tweeted an image of a pixelated iPhone 6 side by side with the HTC One M8 with the slogan “Bigger screen, Better performance, Elegant design. Welcome to the party #iPhone6”. Although, in some ways this does pay some credence to Apple for developing what seems to be a better phone than its predecessors the more apparent message underlying the tweet was how Apple have long been behind the Android alternatives in terms of size, performance and design. When looking at the general specs there are a number of similarities between the IPhone6 (Plus) and the M8. Both devices offer a 5”+ screen and both offer a 1080 x 1920 resolution. The iPhone does seem to be thinner than the M8 (7.1mm compared to 9.4mm) although the M8 comes in lighter in terms of weight (160g compared to 172g).

It is no secret that over the last few evolution’s of the iPhone, Apple users have become increasing despondent with its lack of real major improvements or steps forward. In contrast, Android devices have continually evolved at a rapid pace providing its customers with bigger screens, higher memory and processors and generally better built and designed devices. The current HTC mocking is rather reminiscent of the previous Samsung “The Next Big Thing (is Already) here” campaign which if you remember mocked users queuing outside Apple stores waiting to buy the iPhone while passers-by were using their more-functional and featured Samsung Galaxy devices. With both Samsung and HTC on the attack this morning, some could argue this is a sign of their fear of Apple although HTC is not wrong to state that Apple are now only starting to offer what Android devices have been offering for a long time. What do you guys think? Samsung and HTC showing a sign of weakness or merely setting Apple straight?
