gmail-ah-1

In today’s world where we put our privacy on the internet security is extremely important. Some things are meant to be public and seen, others however, not so much. So whenever we hear that something private got leaked from a service we use and trust, we get worried, which is quite normal. Earlier today we’ve reported that 5 million Gmail usernames and passwords got leaked on a Russian website and urged you to change your Google password. Google was quick to react to this, read on.

Google says that none of their current systems were hacked in order to obtain this data while adding that less than 2% of username and password combinations might have worked. Google also notified the affected users right away. “We found that less than 2% of the username and password combinations might have worked, and our automated anti-hijacking systems would have blocked many of those login attempts. We’ve protected the affected accounts and have required those users to reset their passwords. It’s important to note that in this case and in others, the leaked usernames and passwords were not the result of a breach of Google systems. Often, these credentials are obtained through a combination of other sources.” said Google. This is only a part of their official statement, you can check out the rest via the source link below.

Google added that the credentials were probably obtained by the sources outside of Google. The company also explained a part of their actions in order to keep your account as secure as possible while they also gave out some tips in order for you to keep your account safe. You can never be too safe nowadays, so keep your passwords as long and cryptic as possible while keeping them stored in a safe place, your head only is always a safe bet. Google even offers 2-step verification you might consider, you can read about it if you follow the source link below. Services like 1Password and LastPass are also a great choice.
