Great news, Sprint customers. You will get to turn heads everywhere you go thanks to the “frameless” Sharp Aquos Crystal coming to Sprint soon.
We just reported that the Aquos Crystal will become available in Japan with Softbank later this month, but we were pretty sure that the stunning device won’t ever make it to other countries. We’re happy to report that we were wrong! The Aquos Crystal is coming to Softbank subsidiary Sprint, and, very likely, it will be announced tomorrow.
The information comes from a press release put out by Sharp, as well as from descriptions of stock photographs by Getty Images. There’s no official announcement by Sprint yet, but the carrier has an event scheduled for tomorrow under the “Take the edge off” tagline. Also, notice the crystal background of the teaser invite…
Sprint and Softbank co-developed the device together with Sharp, but Sprint will probably offer the Aquos Crystal under a different branding in the US.
The Japanese Aquos Crystal packs a 5-inch HD LCD display, a Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, a 2040 mAh battery, 8GB of storage, and Harman Kardon sound enhancements, similar to Sprint’s special edition One (M8). I know what you’re thinking – the specs scream mid-range, but that special design may be a stronger selling point for some.
The Aquos Crystal is 10 millimeters thick and weighs 140 grams. The phone’s distinctive edge-to-edge screen features beveled edges, creating a lens effect that highlights the thin margins. A Full HD 5.5-inch version dubbed Aquos Crystal X is coming to Softbank Japan from December, but it’s not clear for now if that model will ever cross the Pacific.
Expect more details after the Sprint official event tomorrow.
