Evan Blass (aka Evleaks) announces his retirement

evleaks-retiring

Over the weekend, Evan Blass — the man behind Evleaks — announced his retirement from the leaking game. For many folks this move might have seemed to come out of the blue, but thanks to an interview with the Next Web we now know a bit more about why Blass is calling it quits.

As with many things in life, the decision mostly came down to dollars and cents. Between trying to provide a good life for his family and fighting his multiple sclerosis, Blass feels he can no longer take on the responsibilities of his full-time leaking gig and needs to turn to a more traditional full-time job that comes with a steady paycheck. While Evleaks has attempted to monetize his stream through his recently formed website and via sponsered tweets, he says that the effort hasn’t been all that successful. Blass also notes that his tech-savvy audience also tended to be ad-block users, which didn’t help the situation much.

Bottom-line, Blass says the decision is final and that he doesn’t plan to come “back out of retirement”. He has yet to decide what will become of the website, but does note that his well-known Twitter handle will continue to be operated for personal use. It’s sad to see Evan Blass go, as the man has been behind tons of mobile leaks, many of which have been featured on Android Authority’s posts. Still, as Blass says in his goodbye tweet, “all good things must come to an end”.

What do you think of the news? Surprised? Do you feel this will slow down the number of leaks that make their way to the net, or do you believe there are plenty of other talented leakers out there that will be able to pick up the slack?
