Motorola’s Moto 360 Design Face-off contest was announced last May, but we were more focused on the small text, revealing a $250 price point. This contest’s main purpose was to get people interested in designing a watch face for the Moto 360. After 1300 submissions, Motorola has finally narrowed down designs to the best 10, and you will select the winner.
In a way, all 10 designs are winners, and their makers will get a $50 Google Play gift card. First place will get to take a Moto 360 home, though, making this contest a rather sweet deal. Some of these designs look stunning, but others look a bit confusing. I am a fan of simplicity – the Moto 360 and Android Wear are all about it, too.
I do like how some of these implement app shortcuts and more functionality, as opposed to pure aesthetics. After all, this smart watch is to break boundaries and bring forth the next generation of watches. We do need that “smart factor” in the watch face.
To cast your vote, simply go into your favorite designs (which Motorola posted in Google+) and +1 them. You can +1 as many of them as you want, so go ahead and pick your favorites before June 24th. Motorola will then close the contest and reward the winners.
I can’t wait to see what other work the developer community will be making after the watch is announced and available for everyone. Don’t fret, developers, remember Google IO is right around the corner and we are almost sure all attendees will walk away with an Android Wear device (probably an LG G Watch). We will start seeing all the glorious apps showing up soon after that!
