HTC D826W Handset Passes Through TENAA Certification

download

The Chinese TENAA handset inspector has passed a new unannounced HTC device through testing and the source website provides us with plenty of detail. The new handset has a model designation of D826W and is based around a 1.7 GHz processor paired up with 2GB of RAM. It uses a 5.5-inch, 1080p resolution display and there’s 16GB of on-board internal storage. As with many of HTC’s recent devices, there’s also a MicroSD slot with support for up to 128GB MicroSD memory cards. There’s a 13-megapixel rear camera and what’s described as a “HTC super pixel camera” for the front, which could be a variant of the UltraPixel technology. The HTC also supports Chinese LTE bands. The icing on the cake is that the new HTC runs Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, making it the first Lollipop-equipped device to be sold in the Chinese market.

We don’t know the type of processor the D826W contains but the rest of the specification points towards it being something in the upper mid range. We’ve seen rumors that the handset will use the Snapdragon 805 processor but it would be an unusual mode for HTC to underclock this processor down from a more usual 2.7GHz to 1.7GHz. Likely candidates include processor from either MediaTek or Qualcomm. If this is a Snapdragon, I would suspect the new HTC uses the Snapdragon 610, which is a new generation, 64-bit, quad core processor. However, there are several possible MediaTek processors that HTC may have used instead, but those with the necessary 4G LTE compatibility are similarly new generation: it looks like the new HTC will have a 64-bit processor.

The new ‘phone will be available in a number of different color combinations including classic white, pink inlay, inlaid blue, blue-black inlay, inlaid blue-gray and black. At this stage, we do not have clarification regarding the price or availability of the new device, nor do we know the complete specification as there was a distinctive absence of comment regarding the battery or BoomSound, nor can we see the distinctive top and bottom speakers. Perhaps HTC have come up with a new way to use BoomSound or perhaps they have excluded it from this model? Regardless, the D826W handset appears to be coming very soon, which means we will know shortly! To our readers, what do you think to the idea of a 5.5-inch, 1080p display and an upper mid-range 64-bit processor? Would you miss BoomSound? Would you be excited to be getting another HTC device with Android Lollipop right out of the box? Let us know in the comments below.
