Report: Sony is not introducing a new Flagship at MWC 2015

We’re starting to get close to Mobile World Congress 2015, which takes place in Barcelona this year from March 2nd to the 5th. Sony is one of the many smartphone makers that will be there. We’ve already got events announced for Samsung, Huawei, HTC and others. We know Sony is going to be there and likely do a press conference. But we’re hearing from Xperia Blog today that Sony is not announcing a new flagship this year at MWC 2015. So could it be that Sony finally listened to us? And are not launching a new phone every 6 months? One can only hope.

However, it is also important to remind everyone, that Sony has done this before. Before MWC 2014 and IFA 2014, they said there would be no flagship at those shows. And well we got the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3, respectively, at those shows. But on the other hand, Sony’s new flagship which we anticipate to be the Xperia Z4, has not leaked at all really. Which is actually really surprising for Sony. Usually their products leak out almost entirely, before they announce them. In fact, they put up posters and flyers around their headquarters saying not to do benchmarks, etc, on test devices so they don’t leak out, and that flyer leaked out. So perhaps after that Sony Pictures hack, they doubled down on everything.

Either way, I’m sure Sony has something for us, whether it be a new Xperia Z4, or some mid-range smartphones. They always have something for us at these shows. But what could it be? Maybe a new Xperia Z Ultra? Or maybe a new tablet? We’ll have to wait until the beginning of March to find out. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m definitely excited to see what Sony has up their sleeves this time around.
