MWC 2015: Hands On With Yu Yureka, The Cyanogen OS-Powered Smartphone

Micromax Yu AH 01

The Yu Yureka handset was announced by the Micromax-owned company Yu last December. This device is the first product of a partnership between Micromax and Cyanogen, and it comes with Cyanogen OS pre-installed. It is also worth mentioning that Yu has exclusive rights to use Cyanogen OS in India. Yu Yureka is a very well specced device which is quite affordable at the same time, which was the whole point of its release. More on specs later, we managed to get our hands on a copy of the device at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll notice a bunch of images taken at MWC showing off this device. Yu Yureka costs Rs. 8,999 in India, which comes to approximately $140. That’s a bargain for such an equipped phone, speaking of its internals, let’s take a look at the specs of this device.

The Yu Yureka sports a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection on top of it. Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor (quad-core 1.7GHz ARM Cortex A53 & quad-core 1.0GHz ARM Cortex A53) is powering on this device and comes with an Adreno 405 GPU for graphics processing. 2GB of DDR3 RAM comes with this device and you get 16GB of internal storage here, which you can expand via MicroSD card. 13-megapixel camera rear-facing with 5P (5 plastic elements) lens and Sony’s Exmor R sensor (f/2.2 aperture) is located at the back of this handset and it can shoot 1080p at 30fps and 720p slow motion video at 60fps. On the front of this device you’ll find a 5-megapixel OmniVision 5648 sensor (4P lens, 71-degree wide viewing angle). We’re talking about a dual-SIM device here, which offers 4G LTE connectivity. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS are also here, and the device ships with a 2500mAh battery. The Yu Yureka measures 154.8 x 78 x 8.8mm and weighs 155 grams.

The design of this device is quite industrial and non-flashy, but it does the trick. Let us know what you think about this device, would you consider purchasing a copy if it becomes available in your region?
