Samsung has announced the entry-level Galaxy J1 handset official just a couple of days ago, and we already get some follow-up information regarding yet another model of this handset, well, more of them actually. GSM Arena received an anonymous tip that this Korean giant plans to release not 1, but 2 more Galaxy J1 versions by the end of this month. I’m not really surprised by this, Samsung simply loves to release different versions of the same handset. Anyhow, let’s see what’s this all about.
First mentioned model is the SM-J100F, this handset will allegedly be powered by Marvel’s Armada Mobile PXA1908 chip, a quad-core 64-bit Cortex-A53 processor. This handset will have 1 SIM slot available and will support both 3G and LTE connectivity. The SM-J100FN is the second mentioned model, and it is basically the same as the aforementioned SM-J100F, but it offers dual-SIM connectivity. The source also mentioned the SM-J100H, but that’s the already released Galaxy J1 handset. That’s not all though, the anonymous tipster also mentioned something about an SM-J700F handset, which will reportedly be named the Galaxy J7. This handset will come with Android 5.0 pre-installed according to the source, and it might feature a bigger display, though the display size is just an assumption at this point.
The recently released Galaxy J1 features a 4.3-inch 800 x 480 TFT display along with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 128GB). This handset is powered by Spreadtrum’s dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz which ships with Mali-400 GPU for graphics. 5-megapixel snapper is located on its back (+LED flash), and a 2-megapixel shooter is available up front. This thing comes with Android 4.4.4 KitKat pre-installed with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top of it. 129 x 68.2 x 8.9mm are the device’s measurements and it weighs 122 grams.
The Samsung Galaxy J1 is still not available for sale, but we’ll let you know when that happens, of course. This is a low-end offering by Samsung and I do expect its price to be extremely low, judging by its specs. I find it hard to recommend an Android smartphone featuring 512MB of RAM and a sub-720p display these days, but this is a device aimed at emerging markets, so… yeah, I guess that’s fine, if the pricing is right, of course.
