Xiaomi did a great job in 2014, this China-based company has launched a bunch of great handsets and we knew they sold a ton of those. Today we get the exact numbers as far as Xiaomi sales go and some additional info next to that, so, let’s see what’s what. The company has officially confirmed that they sold 61.12 million phones in 2014, which means they met their 60 million estimate for last year. Xiaomi’s revenue for 2014 was 74.3 billion Yuan ($12 billion). Let me also remind you that Xiaomi recently managed to raise $1.1 billion in investments, so we expect the company to have an even better 2015 and expand to other markets (outside of Asia), as they planned.
These numbers were announced by the company’s CEO, Lei Jun, via Weibo. Let me also remind you that Xiaomi sold “only” 18.7 million handsets in 2013, and 7.2 million a year before, so this is an incredible growth rate we’re looking at, as I’ve mentioned many times before. Xiaomi is currently the number 1 smartphone OEM in China and 3rd in the world, which is a big deal for a company that was founded 4 years ago. Xiaomi expects to sell 100 million handsets in 2015, which is about 40 million more than they sold in 2014, talk about optimism. Xiaomi intends to expand to Latin America, India, Southeast Asia and Russia in 2015, though it remains to be seen if they’ll manage to pull it off (how much time will it take).
Xiaomi encountered some issues in India recently, after Ericsson sued them for infringing on that Sweden-based company’s patents. The company is now banned from selling their devices in India (even though they were allowed to sell the Snapdragon-powered devices until recently) and they’ll have to sort things out with Ericsson before they could do more business in India. The hearing is set for the beginning of February and we hope that these two companies will work things out as soon as possible.
