While CES hasn’t officially begun yet, a lot of exhibitors have already begun announcing products that they will be showing off at their booths when the show floor opens up on Tuesday. Seagate announced a slew of new products this morning. One of those being the Seagate Wireless. This is a wireless portable hard drive (500GB capacity right now, likely to see a 1TB version soon). With Seagate Wireless, you can seamlessly stream movies and TV shows to your Android tablet or smartphone, iPhone/iPad, Kindle Fire tablet, Windows 8 Computers and Windows RT tablets (looks like Windows phone users are left out again).

“Seagate pioneered the product category of wireless storage devices and is pleased at how the category has grown over the years,” said Patrick Connolly, vice president of Seagate branded innovations. “The latest generation of Seagate Wireless extends that legacy and makes the wireless streaming experience broadly available to far more consumers.”

Storage on the Seagate Wireless portable hard drive is accessed through the Seagate Media app, which is available on all the major app stores, for download. That includes Apple’s App Store, Google Play, Amazon’s App Store, and Microsoft’s as well. The drive creates it’s own wifi network, so you are essentially connecting directly to the drive, but over a WiFi connection. Sort of like WiFi direct. Which also means that you can use this when you don’t have WiFi around you, as it emits it’s own network for you to connect too. Which is really nice, especially when traveling.

“Additionally, Seagate Wireless can be used to enjoy video, photos, music and even documents on the big screen via Apple Airplay, Google Chromecast, or an app designed specifically for Samsung and LG Smart TVs and Roku players.”

Seagate has stated that the Seagate Wireless portable hard drive will be available from Bestbuy, Amazon, and Seagate.com in early February and will run about $129.99 at launch. There’s no word on what countries it will be available in just yet. The Seagate Media app is available for free in the app stores listed above.
