Saygus have announced the V2 “super smartphone,” pronounced “V-squared.” In founder Chad Sayers’ words, “The Saygus V2 is the embodiment of what we believe consumers want in a mobile device. Our super smartphone takes the best functionality and usability of current high-end smartphones and adds an unparalleled level of innovation with several features that are unique to the V2.” But let’s take a look through the hyperbole at the V2’s specifications and see what this super smartphone is made of! It’s based around a 5.0-inch, 1080p “borderless display,” 1080p FHD 5″ borderless screen, a quad core 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 64 GB of internal storage plus a Micro SDcard slot that may take up to 256 GB cards. There’s an optically stabilized pair of cameras, 21 MP for the rear and 13 MP for the front, together with a biometric fingerprint side scanner. The V2 has IPX7 underwater-use certification and a 3,100 mAh battery, which Saygen claim gives close to 4,600 mAh performance thanks to intelligent battery saving technology. There’s built-in Qi wireless charging. The device is constructed of a blend of hardened Kevlar, anodized brushed aluminum sides, a lightweight magnesium mid-frame and a soft-touch fiberglass back coating. Saygus also explains that the device has both CDMA and GSM technologies but at this juncture, has not released what precise network types and bands it supports.
Saygen claim to have broken a mold by including Wireless HD (60 GHz) technology, which lets users send wireless video to any monitor or television with the 60 GHz dongle attached. This, it says, will be great for gamers and businesses to be able to play or present information in high definition. There’s onboard 3D audio experience hardware from Harman Kardon and the V2 has high tech, new generation noise cancelling technology. Saygen also revealed that the V2 has online security software but did not provide any additional details at this point.
The Saygus has also been recognized at the Consumer Electronics Show, or CES, as a 2015 Innovation Award Honoree in the Wireless Handset Category, the second CES award the company has been given. The handset is due to begin shipping “early 2015″ and pre-orders will start soon. Until then, we’ve no word on some of the finer points of the device such as the price, availability, network bands and technologies. The website explains that they’ll be providing more details and videos showcasing the V2’s features and this is a good thing, because what I’ve seen is interesting but we are missing on several important items from the specification sheet.
