Unofficial Lollipop Builds For The Motorola Droid 4 and Droid RAZR Now Available

Motorola-Logo-AH-4

Android 5.0 (Lollipop) is everywhere these days. Hardly a day passes when there is not some form of Lollipop news. These are usually either reports that Lollipop is en-route to a specific device, is delayed to a specific device or simply some of the new and neat features we have heard about. Lollipop is already big business and everyone wants it. It seems Google are moving fast with the operating system too. Although, Lollipop only landed a month ago, yesterday we saw the first post-release update starting to land. At the moment, this is only for the Nexus, 7, 9 and 10 but other Nexuses are likely to follow soon enough. So while most of the world (and their dog) waits for Lollipop, some users are already getting their Lollipop updated again. Ahhh, the fairness of Android.

Well, if you are not one of those who have already got a full and official release of Android Lolipop pushed to your device (which is most of us) then you no doubt are probably waiting for the unofficial builds to hit. We have already seen a number of these landing and although great for users, can prove to be problematic at times. Unofficial builds can be buggy and have issues you are unlikely to get with official builds. But that said, that is the fun of unofficial builds. The latest on this front, is that it now seems two more devices have now got the unofficial treatment. If you haven’t guessed by the title, the latest additions are the Motorola Droid 4 and the Motorola Droid RAZR.

Both the devices come from the same CyanogenMod (CM) 12 build which was originally created for the Droid 4 by XDA member stargo. However, the Droid RAZR was then further made available thanks to XDA member ktmique. Although the two stem from the same original source it is important to remember they are device-specific. As such you need to flash and install the correct files. If you are interested in the Droid 4 CM12 build then click here. If you are of the RAZR persuasion then click here for your files. As with unofficial builds, there are things working and also things not working. From what we know so far, what is working includes calls, data, WiFi, tethering and GPS. Things noted as not (currently) working include the camera, recovery rebooting and some other bits. For full information on either of these ports, click the already mentioned device links or click the source link below. Happy flashing Droid 4 and RAZR owners. Don’t forget the golden rule. Backup, backup, BACKUP.
