This past September, information leaked indicating OnePlus was already tossing around ideas and plans to launch a successor to the OnePlus One sometime during 2015. That really was not a surprise given the way the industry works even for a phone as difficult to obtain as the OnePlus One has been. Now a source familiar with OnePlus’s plans has shared some more details about what is being considered.
According to the source, the next version of a OnePlus smartphone will be more customizable. This will be especially true thanks to the StyleSwap covers the company uses for their devices. For the OnePlus One, buyers supposedly could get coveres in wood, denim and Kevlar materials. Like the phone, these various covers were elusive, a situation the company hopes to correct with the next version of their smartphone.
The next OnePlus phone is projected to be a relatively inexpensive devices, especially when compared to other devices with similar hardware. The company is apparently targeting $500 as the ceiling for the price no matter what hardware improvements are made. The source also indicates OnePlus has some “surprises in store when it comes to hardware,” a nebulous claim at best.
This is not a whole lot to go on as far as figuring out what OnePlus has planned for their next device, but it does look like they are planning to stick to the formula they used for the OnePlus One.
