The 2012 Note 2 remains one of Samsung’s most beloved devices, even if the 5.5-incher has fallen behind in terms of performance and software features. The Note 2 still has a loyal following, and thanks to the efforts of developer group Team Electron, the device just got a new lease on life.
Based on a stock ROM for the Galaxy Note 4, Team Electron created a Note 2 ROM that includes many of the top features of the Note 4, including Ultra Power Saving Mode and the new Air Command features. Dubbed Ditto Note 4, or DN4, the ROM brings many of the features that are still unique to the Note 4, the new user interface design, and many of the Samsung apps loaded by default on the latest generation Note.
As you can see from the video below, the Note 2 holds its own under the load of the ROM, and performance is generally decent.
Before you get too excited, note that this modification is not for the inexperienced, as it requires rooting your device, flashing a custom bootloader, and using TWRP to flash the new ROM. There are three main known bugs, but they’re fairly minor – FM radio is broken, there’s an unspecified issue with Bluetooth, and the Abstract Tile lockscreen effect causes crashes.
If you’re eager to get a taste of the Note 4’s greatness on your trusty Note 2, head over to this XDA Developers thread for a full feature list, download link, and installation instructions.
