We’re seeing more and more Android Wear smartwatches hit the market. Asus has its own offering in form of a ZenWatch the company launched back at IFA in September. ZenWatch still hasn’t hit the market but the company has released three separate apps on the Google Play Store for their upcoming Android Wear offering, ZenWatch Manager, Remote Camera and Asus Wellness. ZenWatch Manager is basically a remote setup for your watch on your phone’s screen. A nicely designed blue interface (check it out in the gallery below) will let you change some settings on your watch like watch faces, ambient mode and will allow you to bypass its lock screen when the watch is nearby. Compass is already a part of the package despite the fact Android Wear has it by default, while flashlight also comes along with the app.
The Remote camera is the second app Asus added. This is basically a remote viewfinder and of course a shutter button for your ZenWatch. This app, unlike ZenWatch Manager, is compatible with any Android device running Android 4.3. You can use this app with any Android Wear smartwatch according to Asus, though there are also solutions like this available in the Play Store, it doesn’t hurt to try Asus’ app and see if it’s worth it. Last, but not least, we have Asus Wellness. This is a fitness app which doesn’t exactly bring anything new to the tablet. This is a basic activity tracker with some added stuff, like a timeline view for example. Hopefully Asus plans to do something more with this app, perhaps allow other apps access to it or something.
Asus ZenWatch sports a 1.63-inch curved 320 x 320 AMOLED display and it is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, like the majority of today’s smartwatches. The watch ships with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of in-built storage. Bluetooth 4.0 is on-board as well as a bio sensor which measures your heart rate. This watch is waterproof, it is IP55 certified. As I already mentioned, ZenWatch is still not available in the market, but considering Asus already launched these apps I bet it will be really soon.
