Google’s Glass has divided opinion across the industry with some seeing the ultimate Android Wear device as the inevitable future for all of us while others seeing the device as an eyesore and an invasion of privacy. So far Governments in both the US and UK have debated on Glass and its uses with the UK government banning its use while driving. Cinemas have also banned users from wearing Glass in an attempt to stop users recording movies (in spite of the battery life not currently sufficient enough to record an entire movie). Either way Glass has attracted considerable attention and debate.
Well now it seems the infamous specs have made their way on to the US Play Store. A few months ago the device went live on the UK Play Store but in the US the so called ‘Explorer Program’ (explorers being Glass users) always remained as a beta program with users having to go through the Glass site, fill in the form, request to be an ‘explorer’ yadda yadda. Not anymore. The news today is the futuristic tech specs are alive and kicking on the Play Store. It’s currently not known if this is a permanent move by Google and as such effectively a full launch of the product, or if this is again just a limited-time opportunity to buy through the Play Store. Google may simply be only testing the water and the Play interface before a full launch.
Either way, you can now buy the hi-tech Glass. The product is still listed at the whopping $1500 price tag and is available in five colours – Tangerine, Charcoal, Cotton, Shale and Sky (orange, black, white, grey and blue to you and me). In addition to the actual glass unit it seems all the accessories are also currently available too. This includes the full list of frames which also come in the same colours and also four varieties of model (Curve, Split, Bold and Thin) and retail at $225. The shades are also listed which come in three model varieties (Active, Classic and Edge) and retail for $150. The last accessory noted is the earbuds which work with glass. These are available in two versions (Stereo and Mono) and are available to purchase for $85. It is worth noting that the main Glass listing states you can add a frame or shade for free when purchasing the main device and this will be discounted at checkout.
