A tipster to Android Central sent over a pretty interesting picture. It’s a picture of a box, with the usual “confidential” blah, blah, blah stuff we see on boxes for devices that have not been announced or released yet. On the box, you’ll see “Motorola Mobility” and the model number “XT1096″. I know the first thing you’re going to do, and that’s go Google-ing XT1096, well I beat you to it. Because it’s not a model number we’ve heard of before, and rightfully so, there’s nothing that’s been published about it – aside from Android Central’s post a few minutes ago which is sourced below. Like we’ve said, we have no idea what it is, but we are definitely interested.
This could be the Moto X+1 that’s should be announced soon, it could be a new DROID from Motorola – after all they are the exclusive manufacturer of the DROID line. If we look back at the Moto X variants, we had XT1049 through XT1060. Then the DROID Ultra was XT1080, while the DROID Maxx was XT1080M, and the DROID Mini was XT1030. So it could very well be a Moto X+1 or a new DROID smartphone from Motorola. All we know is that it’s destined for Verizon and it’s in testing now. Oh and we aren’t supposed to tell anyone about it, since it is confidential and all that. So shhh.
This time last year, we already had both the Moto X event and the DROID event with Verizon. So it’s interesting to see that those devices will be the current gen for over a year. Although we had heard that the Moto X+1 was delayed a bit, but we’re still anxiously awaiting the device to be announced. We loved the Moto X last year, and the DROID Ultra/Maxx as well. And can’t wait to see what Motorola has up their sleeve this year.
