Here we have yet another Samsung phone launching, this time on T-Mobile only. This is the Galaxy Avant, which we’ve heard a bit about in the past few weeks. For those wondering, yes, the Galaxy Avant does support T-Mobile’s 700MHz network which they’ll be launching later this year. So most phones coming out of T-Mobile now should support that band. As far as specs go on the Galaxy Avant, we’re looking at a 4.5-inch qHD display. Yeah its the lowercase q in qHD. So it’s 960×540. There’s also a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, which is unspecified but I think its safe to assume it’s the Snapdragon 400 from Qualcomm. Along with 4G LTE, obviously, unspecified cameras and running on Android 4.4 Kitkat. Now it appears that this basically just the Galaxy Core 2 LTE that Samsung sells elsewhere in the world. So we’ll probably see a 5MP camera on this one.
T-Mobile is selling the Galaxy Avant for $216 or $9/month for 24 months. It’s a pretty decent device for only $216 full retail. But of course there is better stuff out there if you can spend a bit more, or can do without LTE. Since there is the Moto G, with more pixels, and about $40 less than the Samsung Galaxy Avant. Samsung has also added in all of their features into the Galaxy Avant like S Finder, S Beam, and everything in between. So you’ll get most of the features from the Galaxy S5, but at less than half the price. Of course, the camera won’t stack up to it, but that’s part of the extra $390 for the Galaxy S5.
