Here’s some interesting news, maybe a bit more interesting than their recent management shuffling. But according to the USPTO, Motorola has filed for the trademark “Moto Maxx”. Which would lead us to believe that we may see a Moto Maxx in our future. Maybe not this year though. For those that aren’t aware of the term “Maxx”, you’re probably not in the US. But it refers to the Droid Razr Maxx, Droid Razr HD Maxx and Droid Maxx, which Motorola has launched the last three years, and essentially have been their flagship device, but with a massive battery. The Droid Razr Maxx in 2011 featured a 3500mAh battery and gave us around 18 hours of LTE use. Which was amazing back then. I’ve used both the Droid Razr HD Maxx and the Droid Maxx. Both are great devices. But there’s one downside, and that is availability. It’s been a Verizon exclusive. So those not on Verizon wouldn’t get that battery life, unfortunately.
However, that might be changing, if this trademark means anything. Not that Motorola really needs a huge battery in their devices, but it’s better than a smaller one. Motorola has done a lot for battery optimization in their smartphones in the past few years. We’re hoping that the next Moto X will get a Maxx brother. Even the Moto G and Moto E could use one, and I’m sure those would sell even better than the Moto G which has been their best selling smartphone of all time – but remember all their smartphones had been exclusive to one carrier. It’ll be interesting to see when we hear more about the Moto Maxx, but I’m definitely interested in seeing what Motorola does here.
