Sprint Tells us “Don’t Believe the Hype” When it comes to T-Mobile’s Uncarrier 5 and 6 announcements

AH Softbank Sprint T-Mobile Merge 1.1

Last night, T-Mobile announced a bunch of new things. But the biggest one was Music Freedom. Basically what they are doing is allowing you to stream music from 8 different providers (they’ll add more as they go)for free. It will not count towards your data cap, which is cool as long as you have one of the tiered plans and not the $80 unlimited plan. They also announced Unradio, which is a partnership with Rhapsody. It’s available for T-Mobile customers for $4/month and free to those on their $80 unlimited plan. Well Sprint just sent us a little reminder in our inbox that we shouldn’t believe all the hype.

Sprint let’s us know that why does the free streaming matter when they offer unlimited data on all their plans. They also talk about their Framily plans which can go as low as $45/month when you have at least 7 people on your account. Additionally they informed us that all Sprint customers get Spotify for free and that they are one of the largest streaming music providers around. All of these points are true, but it’s interesting to see that they had to remind us about this. We haven’t heard a peep from AT&T or Verizon just yet, so could it be that Sprint is scared of what T-Mobile just announced? I don’t see why, because Music Freedom is pretty useless for those that have truly unlimited data anyways.

Perhaps this is Sprint trying to put up a front that they are not looking to merge with T-Mobile? Who knows, but T-Mobile has a lot of hype going for them right now, even if what they announced seemed to be small announcements. It still got them a lot of attention and I bet they will gain a ton of customers from this. How many of you are on Sprint with their Framily plan? Are you thinking about switching over to T-Mobile? What about those on T-Mobile are you thinking of leaving for Sprint’s Framily plans?
