Report: Samsung’s Wear smartwatch called Gear Live, to launch on July 7

Gear2Neo-118

Last week, we learned that Samsung would be the third partner to launch an Android Wear smartwatch at Google I/O, and now we may have some additional details.

Take this report with a grain of salt, as its source is Spanish-language technology blog Alt1040 , an outlet that we’re not familiar with. According to the website, Samsung’s Android Wear smartwatch will be called Gear Live and the device will become available for sale from July 7. We already suspected Samsung was going to extend its existing Gear line with an Android Wear product, and if the device is introduced today, retail availability from July 7 seems plausible.

The report mentions a set of alleged specs for the Samsung Gear Live:

  • Display: 1.63-inch Super AMOLED, 320 x 320 pixels

  • Processor: 1.2 GHz

  • RAM: 512 MB

  • Storage: 4GB

  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0

  • Dimensions: 37.9 x 56.4 x 8.9 mm, 59 grams

  • Battery: 300 mAh

  • Ingress protection: IP67

  • Features: heart rate monitor

These specifications are very similar to those of the Tizen-powered Gear Neo (pictured above), and we wouldn’t be surprised if design was similar as well.

No information about pricing, though we do expect the Gear Live to cost about the same as the LG G Watch, in the $250-$300 range.

With Google I/O about to start later today, we’ll have all the official information straight from the source soon. Stay tuned for our I/O coverage throughout the day!
