Not all of us enjoy living on the edge of new custom ROM releases, and sometimes not even Milestones or Release Candidates are stable enough for critical-bug-free usage on a daily basis.
If you value stability more than cutting-edge features, the latest release of Android Paranoid is for you. The Final release of Android Paranoid 4.4 brings the “most stable experience since 4+”, according to a post on PA’s Google Plus, though that doesn’t mean that development has stopped on the project.
Besides fixes for a multitude of issues that cropped along its development path, PA 4.4 Final brings tweaks and improvements to many parts of the OS. Here’s a brief rundown:
- Includes upstream patches from Android 4.4.4
- Volume Panel has been redesigned
- Hover was tweaked to look and work better on tablets, and received several other usability tweaks
- Pie received usability tweaks and now supports theming
- The native Peek functionality was updated to make better use of sensor information, similarly to the standalone Peek app available in the Play Store
- Theme Engine upstream changes were merged and support for theming was extended to the Dialer app and other areas of the OS
- Smaller changes to Battery Tile, Status Bar, Recent screen, Documents UI, Paranoid OTA app, Translations and more
- General bug fixes
Head over to the PA download page to get your PA 4.4 Final build, now available for Nexus devices, or jump to the legacy downloads page, where you can find the latest PA builds for other devices.
With the L release of Android expected to launch today at Google I/O, the PA team (as well as CyanogenMod, AOKP, and other custom ROM projects) may soon have new material to work with. However, it’s not clear yet whether Google will release some sort of beta for the L release or will just give us a preview. In other words, PA 4.4 Final could remain the best and most stable version of Paranoid Android for a long while.
